More about Mesothelioma
This form of cancer has four stages. Diagnosing mesothelioma in the first two stages is essential for ensuring a greater life expectancy. The most common symptoms include night sweats and weight loss, severe chest pain, shortness of breath, decreased appetite, difficulty swallowing, and inability to sleep. Some people present fluid in the chest and lungs because the growing tumors cause the pleura to expand.
In addition to the symptoms described above, this form of cancer may trigger a number of reactions in the body depending on the type of mesothelioma diagnosed. Pericardial mesothelioma symptoms include heart palpitations and extreme fatigue. In most cases peritoneal mesothelioma causes nausea, vomiting, breathing difficulties, swelling of the abdominal region, severe abdominal pain, fever, and bowel obstruction.
Mesothelioma is diagnosed using a number of tests such as a needle biopsy of the pleura, X-rays, CT scans, PET scans and MRI. The tumor can be removed when the disease is diagnosed in early stages. Most times doctors recommended radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy. Individuals who have been exposed to asbestos should consult their physician frequently.
If you present any of the symptoms listed above and you have worked with products containing asbestos, contact your doctor as soon as possible. In case you suffer from mesothelioma, talk with an attorney to see if you are eligible for compensation.
